<p>BLAS’ın tasarım sürecinin en özgün yanlarından biri Wakeham’ın bankanın yönetim kurulu ve mimarlar arasında bir çeşit arabulucu görev üstlenişi. Yönetim kurulu tüm isteklerini Wakeham’a iletmiş ve bir mimar olarak Wakeham hangilerinin bu ikilinin tasarımlarının bir parçası olup olamayacağı konusunda bir karara varıp, mimarlara bildirimi buna göre şekillendirmiş. Bu nedenle aslında birçok yayın Gerald Wakeham’ın da bankanın tasarım ekibinin bir parçası olarak anılması gerektiğini savunur. Sonuçta, bankanın şekillenen tasarımına nelerin adapte edilip edilmemesi gerektiği konusunda önemli bir karar merci haline gelmişti süreçte.</p>

<p>BLAS’ın tasarımı için ilk isteklerden bir tanesi, cephe düzeninin daha çok cadde mekanı yaratabilecek şekilde tasarlanması. Fakat mimarlar bölgede yapıya komşu olan neoklasik yapıların oluşturduğu dar sokaklara saygılı bir tutum içinde tasarımlarını sürdürmek istemiş. Kurulun isteği yerine ekip, alana cadde çizgisinde sıra halinde ince, fakat derin kolonlar yerleştirmiş. Yapının cam cephesini de kolon sırasından geriye çekmişler. Sonucunda ortaya bir çeşit portico (revak) çıkarmışlar. Bu düzen, hem yayaya zeminde daha geniş bir alan sağlıyor hem de alanın sokak kurgusunu koruyor.</p>

<p>Bu beton kolonlar 5’li gruplar halinde bir araya getirilerek, daha rijit bir taşıyıcı sağlamak amacıyla, enine kirişlerle birbirine bağlanmış. Kolonlar arasındaki kirişler değişimli olarak dar, derin kolonların arka veya ön tarafta kullanılmış. Bu şekilde yapıya dinamik bir görünüm kazandırılmış. Kirişlerde yuvarlak boşluklar olduğunu görüyoruz. Bunun amacı da hem içeriden dışarıya görüntünün sağlanması hem de beton strüktürün görsel ağırlığını bir nebze azaltmak.</p>

<p>Yapının stüktürel kurgusu komşusu olduğu neoklasik düzene fütüristik bir bakış denebilir. Bulunduğu kentsel bağlamla ilişkini tam anlamıyla sağlayabilmek için de BLAS, görünüşte fuzuli, tepeden sarkan bir beton döşemeye sahip. Bu kısım, yapının cadde köşelerinde bulunan 3 binayla kesiştiği noktada yarattığı ‘kentsel oda’nın örtüsü.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<p>Yapının içine baktığımızda, kamusal ve özel alanların iki ayrı taşıyıcı sistemle ayrıştırıldığını görüyoruz. Ana banka işlem alanı (bu alan 113 adet gişe barındırıyor) zemin kata konumlandırılmış. Bu kısmın üstünde, konsol çalışan, bankanın yine kamusal mekanı sayılabilecek 2 alan daha eklenmiş. BLAS’ın çekirdeklerinden biriyle taşınan bu iki alanın üstünde de, 4 katı kaplayan ve çatı taşıyıcısına asılmış ofis alanları bulunuyor. Strüktürel olarak tamamen bağımsızlaştırılmış olsalar da bu kamusal ve özel alanlar arasında yapının tüm yüksekliği boyunca ilerleyen atirumu sayesinde görsel bir iletişim mevcut.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>Tüm bu katlar arasındaki sirkülasyonu da heykeli, spiral bir merdiven ve bir asansör çekirdeği sağlıyor.</p>

<p>Mimarlar zemin kattaki işlem alanını aslında kapalı bir kamusal alan olarak hayal etmiş. Bu konseptlerini de bu kısmı dışarıya tamamen görünür kılarak güçlendirmişler. Testa: “Bir kişi içeriden dışarıya baktığında aslında cephe BLAS’ın değil; caddenin diğer tarafındaki Banco de la Nación’un cephesi.” diyerek anlatmış bu yaklaşımlarını. Yine Testa, aslında bu etkinin yapı tamamlandıktan sonra dikkatini çektiğini söylüyor; tasarımlarının asıl niyeti değilmiş.</p>

<p>BLAS, yapımına başlanmasından beri oldukça ilgi çeken bir proje. Bu nedenle eleştirel yaklaşımlar da bir hayli fazlaymış süreçte. Mimarlar ve bazı eleştirmenler yapıyı çağdaş mimarinin herhangi bir kategorisine sokamadıkları için tanımlamakta zorlanmış. Yapı modernist olmak için fazla resmi, brutalist olmak için fazla romantik bulunuyor.</p>

<p>BLAS, daha sonrasında ‘eğlenceli’, ‘taze’, ‘akla yatmayan’ ve ‘egzotik’ olarak değerlendirilmiş. BLAS, ‘var olmayan zaman ve mekanda yüzen’ ve ‘mimari objenin çevresindeki kentsel dokuda asimilasyonunun ustalık dersi’ şeklinde anılmaya başlanmış.</p>

<p>Bugün Banco Hipotecario’ya ev sahipliği yapan bina, hala övgü toplayan ve ziyaretçilerini etkileyen bir eser. Peter Cook yapı hakkında: “Basılmış bilgiler şu ana kadar Clorindo Testa’nın Bank of London &amp; South America (BLAS) binasının şekillerini ve kısımlarını anlattı, fakat yapıdaki mekanın mükemmeliği, detayların incelmişliğini ve kentin bir köşesinde etrafını sardığı çevrenin akılcı kurgusuna yaklaşamadı.” diyor. Testa ise yapısının ziyaretçileri üzerindeki inanılmaz etkisi hakkında kendisine soru sorulduğunda yalnızca &#8216;bilmiyorum&#8217; cevabını vermekle yetiniyor. Mimar yapısı hakkında yorum yapmayı doğru bulmamış.</p>

<p>Son olarak BLAS aslında bir yarışmanın ürünü. Banka binasının yapılması için yine bankanın bünyasinde çalışan bir mimar olan Gerald Wakeham 1959’da bir tasarım yarışması açmış. Yarışmaya Arjantin’den SEPRA’nın da dahil olduğu 4 ekip çağırmış. SEPRA’nın banka yarışması için ilk tasarım süreci verimli olmamış ve sonuç başarısızmış. Ekip daha sonra Clorindo Testa ile çalışmayı talep etmiş. Ekibin ve Testa’nın işbirliği ile etkileyici, mimarlığın tüm kategorilerinden uzaklaşan, bu nedenle mimarlık tarihinde önemi olan bir eser ortaya çıkmış.</p>

<p>Lina Bo Bardi’ye ilk sanat müzesinin tasarlama görevi verildiğinde tek girdi şehrin alçak kısmındaki yapının alandaki diğer yapıların görüşlerini engellememek. Şehrin meclisinde belirlenen bu kuralın amacı Sao Paulo’da önemli bir toplanma mekanı haline gelmiş olan Avenida Paulista’nın (şehrin kültür ve finans caddesi) karakterini korumak. Lina Bo Bardi bunun üzerine basit fakat oldukça güçlü bir çözümle üretmiş projeyi. Mimar yapıyı ortasından keserek bir yarısını alanda bulunan meydanın altına gömüyor; diğer yarısını ise havaya kaldırıyor. Böylece şehrin önemli meydanlarından biri (Terraço do Trianon) açık ve boş bir şekilde bırakılıyor ve modernizmin ikonik yapılarından<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>Sao Paulo Sanat Müzesi ortaya çıkıyor.</p>

<p>Proje başlangıcından itibaren Sao Paulo Sanat Müzesi, siyasal çevreler etrafında yayılmaya, tepkiler almaya başlıyor. Bo Bardi bu sorunu vali ile gizli bir anlaşmayla izin alarak çözüyor fakat proje geliştikçe yapının tasarımına yön veren vizyonun şehrin kültürel ve siyasal çevrelere ait olmadığı anlaşılıyor. Fakat Bo Bardi arazinin insanlara ve şehre ait olması gerektiğini savunmaya ve tasarımı bu şekilde sürdürmeye devam etmiş. Lina Bo Bardi alanda bir tür “yaşayan müze” yaratmayı hedefliyordu. Doldurduğu kamusal alanın tamamını şehre geri kazandıran ve müzenin kültürü sergileyebilecek ve bu meydan üstünde bir çeşit sahne olabileceğini savunan radikal düşünceyi de kucaklayan bir tasarım amacındaydı.</p>

<p>Sao Paulo Sanat Müzesi’nin anıtsal estetiği aslında ustalık gerektiren bir teknik tasarımından geliyor. Bunun sebebi yapının dilini yapının strüktürel netliğinin belirlemesi. Müze öngerilmeli iki devasa beton kirişin, aynı büyüklükte ayaklara oturtulmasıyla oluşturulmuş. Caddeye paralel yükseltilmiş bir kütle bu devasa sistemle taşınıyor. Bu ana kütle, müzenin sergi ve yönetim mekanlarını barındırıyor.Yapının zemin üstündeki bu kesiti, gömülü olan kısma cam bir asansörle bağlanmış. Bilinçli bir şekilde şu şekilde bir rota kurguluyor Lina Bo Bardi: müze, şehir ve tekrar müze. Bu kurguyla sanat eserinin onu yaratan insandan ve bağlamdan bağımsız şekilde var olabileceği ve müzeyi ziyaret etme deneyimini şehir politikaları içerisinde değerlendirme fikrine meydan okuyor.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<p>Bo Bardi politika ve sanat hakkındaki bu söylemini ana sergi alanlarına da taşımış -modernist açık planın yıllar boyunca sanat eserleri arasındaki hiyerarşiyi tekrar tanımlayan sergi alanlarına. Ziyaretçiler asansörden sonra doğrudan, eserlerin asıldığı ve eserler arasında belirli bir ilerleme olmadan dolanma gerektiren bir mekana çıkıyor. Bu mekan: “Her bir sanat eseri, kendi alanını yaratmak üzere sergilenmiş; eserlerin oradan oraya gezen kaderlerini ve daha da önemlisi geleneksel çerçevelenme şekillerini eksilten bir teşhir kurgusu.” şeklinde tanımlanmış.</p>

<p>Sergilenen eserler cam paneller arasına gömülmüş ve bir beton bloğa oturtulmuş. Havada asılı gibi sergilenen eserler, serginin özgürleştirilmiş kaosu düşüncesini güçlendiriyor ve yapının<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>havada asılı karakterini taklit ediyor. Bo Bardi’nin, insanların yerleşmiş sanat fikirlerini tekrar sorgulaması hedefiyle kurguladığı sergi düzeni, 1990’dan beri maalesef geleneksel duvara asılı eseler şeklinde devam etmiş (mimarın eşi kuratörün emekli oluşuyla).</p>

<p>Yapının, tamamı ve sergi alanlarıyla Bo Bardi sürekli hafiflik ve kitle arasındaki güçlü diyaloğu hatırlatıyor. Teras (meydan) kısmından yapının ağrılığı sezgisel olarak görünür, fakat duyusal olarak bir o kadar kayıp. “Yapının galerileri altındaki meydanda yürüyen yayalar üstlerinden stüktürün ağırlığını hiçbir şekilde hissetmiyor; sanki güneşin önünden bir bulut geçiyor ve onlara bir süreliğine bir serinlik sağlıyormuş hissi yaratıyor.” Yapıdaki gerilim mimarın modernist ve brütalist ögeleri yanyana koymasından kaynaklanıyor. Bu gerilim mimari estetik açısından etkileyici bir eser çıkmasına yol açıyor tam da Bo Bardi&#8217;nin akımları çakıştırmasıyla beklediği gibi.</p>

<p>Bir açıdan camla kaplı açık plan şeması Uluslararası Stil’e (International Style) ait. Başka bir açıdan yapının devasa ayakları ile stüktürel sistemi brütalist harekete ait -yapının yapıldığı yıllar bu akımın altın çağı. Bo Bardi birbirinden bambaşka olan bu elemanları çekinerek kullanmak yerine bu çelişkelere dikkat çekiyor: ayakları cart kırmızı ya boyuyor ve<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>döşemeleri incelterek camın yatay elemanlarını uzatıp görsel olarak öne çıkarıyor. Bu iki fikrin karşılıklı etkileşimi yapıda dramatik bir etki yaratıyor. Sao Paulo Sanat Müzesi’nin geleneksel estetiği yeniden düşünen yenilikçi tasarımı aynı zamanda Brezilya’nın beton modernizmine de kulak veriyor.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<p>Eleştirilere ve karşı çıkan düşüncelere maruz kalsa da Sao Paulo Sanat Müzesi, Lina Bo Bardi’nin hem müze hem de bir toplanma mekanı olma vizyonunu gerçekleştiriyor. MASP bu açından mimarların eşitlikçi değerleri ve sosyal sorumluluğu tasarımlarıyla teşvik edişlerine bir örnek niteliğinde. Müze, aynı zamanda brütalist akımın kentsel bir durumu mimariyle geliştirmek üzere yarattığı en iyi örneğini de gösteriyor.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>Bo Bardi’nin eseri, sanatın politik boyutlarına bir eleştiri niteliği olma özelliğine de sahip. Modern mimarlık tarihinin kurgusal ve estetik açısından oldukça önemli eserlerinden bir tanesi.</p>
