<p>Louvre için I.M. Pei tarafından yapılan yenilemenin hikayesi ise 1981 yılına dayanıyor. 1981’de  Fransa’da dönemin yeni seçilmiş sosyalist başkanı Francios Mitterrand, kültür kurumlarının renovasyonu için ülke çapında bir talimat vermiş ve bunun için ayrılan bütçeyi 2 katına çıkarmış. Bu gelişme, ülkedeki birçok müze ile birlikte, Louvre’un renovasyonu ve yeniden düzenlenmesine de imkan sağlamış -Mittrend’ın ilk olarak Louvre’a odaklanmış. Renovasyon ve müzenin yeniden düzenlemesini içeren Louvre’un gündemdeki son yenilemesi için başkan Mitterrand, 1983 yılında Avrupa’yı ve Amerika’yı dolaştıktan sonra, Çinli-Amerikalı mimar I.M. Pei’yi görevlendirilmesine karar verir ve Paris’in sembollerinden biri haline gelecek olan yapının tasarım süreci böylece başlamış olur.</p>

<p>Louvre için gerekenler ise oldukça fazlaymış. Dünyanın en iyi sanat koleksiyonuna sahip bir yer olarak Louvre, renovasyon istenen zamanlarda oldukça bakımsızdır. Müze içindeki galeri mekanları ise birbirinden kopuk ve bu nedenle Louvre, ziyaretçilerin labirent gibi algıladığı kordiorlarda kaybolduğu bir müze. Müzede galeriler, iç mekanın büyük bölümünü oluşturuyordu ve küratörlere sanat eserlerini depolamak ve bakımını yapmak için hiçbir alan kalmıyordu. Bunların arasında dönemin Fransa Maliye Bakanı Richelieu Wing&#8217;in ofisleri için ayrılan kısımlar vardı. Bu ofisler, müzenin bir kısmını halka kapatıyordu ve ihtiyaç halinde dahi kullanılamıyordu. I.M. Pei bütün bu sorunlara çözüm olacak bir tasarım geliştirmeliydi.</p>

<p>I.M. Pei’nin 1989’da tamamlanan Louvre’un son renovasyonu, Cour Napoleon (Louvre’un ana avlusuna verilen isim) kısmının yeniden tasarlanmasını içerir. Pei bütün bu gereklilikleri sağlayacak bir çözüm olarak çakılla kaplı geniş avluya müze için yeni bir altyapı barındıran yeni bir giriş düşündü.</p>

<p>Yeni giriş, koleksiyonlara ulaşım hacimlerini ve müzenin kamusal mekanlarını barındırıyor. I.M. Pei bu şekilde ziyaretçi yoğunluğunu hafifletmeyi amaçlamıştı. Bu yeni giriş mekanı müzeye, müzenin merkezinde galerilerden ayrı ve kullanışlı bir lobi mekanı sağlaması için düşünülmüştü. Aynı zamanda müzenin ziyaretçilerine Louvre’daki müze deneyimleri süresince bir odak noktası yaratmış oldu.</p>

<p>Galerilerin, depoların ve koruma laboratuvarlarının bulunduğu ve aynı zamanda müzenin kanatları arasında bağlantı sağlayan yeni bir yeraltı sistemi olan giriş için Pei, avlunun ortasında şeffaf bir heykeli bir etki hayal etti. Pei’nin Louvre’a eklediği hacmi aşağıdaki bölümleri aydınlatan, büyük çelik ve cam bir piramit olarak tasarlandı. Yüksekliği 20.6 metre olan cam piramit, 603 eşkenar dörtgen ve 70 üçgen şeklinde pencereden oluşuyor. Bu ana piramidin etrafı da Cour Napoleon isimli avlu kısmının aşağısındaki mekanlara ışık sağlayan 3 küçük üçgen tavan penceresi ile çevrelendi. Pei’ye göre bu radikal tasarıma sahip cam piramit müzeye, tarihsel ve biçimsel önemi olan sembolik bir mekan sağlıyor. Le Grand Louvre bünyesindeki eklemeler ve yer değişimleri ile, müze koleksiyonunun genişlemesine ve daha fazla işin sergilenmesini sağladı.</p>

<p>Louvre’un büyük cam piramidi, ünlü Giza Piramitleri ile aynı oranlar içerisinde tasarlanmış. I.M. Pei tasarımıyla müzenin tarihi dokusuna gölge düşürmekten ziyade Fransız Rönesans mimari stili ile modern strüktürü karşıtlık yaratmak amacı ile bir araya getirmiş. Piramidin eğimli cam duvarları müzenin mansard çatısına (diğer ismi Fransız çatısı, iki farklı eğimle uygulanmış çatılar) ve Louvre’un cephesinin opak, ağır karakterine abartılmış saydamlığıyla saygı duruşunda bulunuyor.</p>

<p>Pei’nin tasarımı Le Grand Louvre, tahmin edilebileceği gibi bir kısım Parisliler tarafından tam anlamıyla kabul görmüyor. Sonuçta Louvre müzesi, Paris insanının hatta dünya tarihinin ve kültürünün derin izlerini barındırmakta. Eleştirilerin çoğu müzeye yapılan eklentilerle ilgili olmaktan daha çok, tasarımın dili ili alakalı oluyor.</p>

<p>Çoğu kimse sürecin başlangıcında Pei’nin Louvre’un yanında oldukça modern kalan tasarımının Louvre’un Rönesans dönemini yansıtan klasik mimarisini bozacağını ve bu modern eklentilerin yapının yanında uzaylı yapımı gibi gözükeceğini düşünüyordu. Tasarıma uluslararası tepki oldukça yerici olmuş. Piramit mimari bir şaka, göz zevkini bozan bir parça, “Paris’in Mısır ölüm sembolünün tarihi fazlaca geçmiş saldırısı” ve “Mitterand tarafından empoze edilmiş megolamanca bir akılsızlık örneği” olarak anılmış. Pei de tasarımıyla beraber 10 yıl süren projenin sürecinde dalga geçilen bir mimar oldu.</p>

<p>Neyse ki, yıllar geçtikten sonra da olsa Pei’nin Le Grand Louvre tasarımı Paris’in kültürü içerisinde yerini buldu. Eyfel kulesinin Parisliler için bir ikon haline gelmesine fazlasıyla benzeyen bir durum. Pei’nin tasarımı Louvre müzesinin ve Paris’in görselinin ayrılamaz bir parçası haline geldi. Le Grand Louvre, şimdilerde Eyfel Kulesi ile bile yarışan bir Paris sembolü.</p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">8 hektarlık selvi ağaçlarının sıkça bulunduğu ormanlık bir arazi üzerine tasarlanan proje 7. sınıftan 12. sınıfa kadar toplam 240 öğrenciye hizmet vermek amacıyla planlanmıştır. Kampüs toplam olarak 15,700 metrekarelik eğitim alanları, idari ofisler, kütüphane, spor salonu ve sanat galerileri, 7300 metrekarelik yatakhaneler, 100 metrekarelik bir Japon pavyonu ve I.M. Pei tarafından tasarlanmış 1800 metrekarelik Şapel’i içermektedir.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Şapel, kampüsün en önemli parçalarından biridir. Asimetrik koni biçiminde bir kesite sahip olan şapelin gözyaşı damlası şeklinde bir plan şeması vardır. Toplam 19 metre yükselen şapel, 300 kişilik bir kapasiteye sahiptir. Betonarme taşıyıcılar kullanılarak ayakta tutulan şapelin cephesi, 18 metre uzunluğunda, 5 milimetre kalınlığında kum püskürtülmüş paslanmaz çelik paneller ile kaplanmıştır. </span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Şapelin iç duvarlarında, kırmızı Japon sedir ağacı kaplama kullanılmıştır. Zemin kaplamasında ise Fransız kireçtaşı ve beyaz meşe ağacı tercih edilmiştir.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Şapel’in konik tasarımı, giriş bölümünde açılmaktadır. Bu açıklık tamamen cam ile kaplanarak yapının girişi belli edilmiş ve dışarıdan bakıldığında şapelin içinde kullanılan ahşap iç kaplamaların göze çarpması sağlanmıştır. Yapının bu cephesinde ve koni biçimindeki duvarların birleşme noktasında bırakılan açıklıklar şapelin doğal güneş ışığı ile aydınlanmasını sağlamaktadır. Aynı zamanda, şapelin içinde asılı duran büyük dairesel ışıklandırma da I.M. Pei tarafından tasarlanmıştır. </span></p>
